Super Simple Italian-Style Baguette

Super Simple Italian-Style Baguette

This Super Simple Italian-Style Baguette is the perfect side dish for any Spaghetti, Lasagna, Ravioli, or Pasta Fagioli Soup you may happen to have on the menu.  Don’t let the total time deter you, the hands-on time is quite minimal and even my toddler was able to help make this dish (hello simple!).

Feel free to switch-up the toppings as you like; or, omit them entirely if you would prefer a plain baguette.  Hope you enjoy, let me know how it goes!

Super Simple Italian-Style Baguette

  • 1 package active dry yeast 2.25t
  • 1.25 c warm water
  • 3 c bread flour divided
  • 1 t salt
  • Olive oil
  • Italian Seasoning to taste
  • Garlic Powder to taste
  • Grated Parmesan Cheese to taste

  1. Stir yeast into warm water in a large bowl and let rest for 5 minutes. Stir 2 3/4c flour into the yeast-water mix and stir until a dough begins to form. Cover and let stand for 15 minutes.
  2. Place dough on a lightly floured surface and top with the salt. Knead the dough until it is smooth. Add a bit of the extra flour, if needed.
  3. Place the dough in a large bowl. Add olive oil and turn to coat. Cover and let rise for about 40 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  4. Punch dough down; cover and let rest 5 minutes. Divide in half. Working with 1 portion at a time, roll each portion on a floured surface into 12-inch rope, slightly tapered at ends. Place ropes on large baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Lightly brush the dough with olive oil. Top with desired amounts of garlic powder, Italian seasoning and grated parmesan cheese. Cover and let rise 20 minutes or until doubled in size. Meanwhile, heat oven to 450.
  6. Bake at 450° for 20 minutes or until browned on bottom and sounds hollow when tapped.
